Frequently Asked Questions

Kelp-Desk, if you haven't already guessed, stands for Kumon help desk. It has been conceived out of necessity, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Social distancing is the new norm and Kumon classrooms are forced to shut their doors.

Kelp-desk.com is a website which helps Instructors connect with their students to provide a virtual classroom experience. Our goal is to recreate the Kumon class over the Internet.

The center instructor can open a request queue at predetermined times (this is like class time).

During this time, students working from home, with access to the Internet, can submit a request for help, providing their name, subject, level, page and even attaching a picture of their work (this is like raising their hand in class). Students will get an estimated wait time, which is constantly updated.

The center instructor, optionally with assistants, can start processing the queue of requests in an orderly fashion. When each student's turn comes up, Kelp-Desk will help launch a video chat between the Instructor and student.

* Kelp-Desk does not handle the actually video chat. For that you can use Zoom or Hangouts.

Yes ... sort of ... contact us and we will see what we can do. But we have limited resources, so it may take a while for us to respond.

Kelp-Desk.com was created by a Kumon franchise owner for an operating center. We have operated a Kumon center in Vancouver BC since 2012. We have incorporated everything we know about center operations to help create a virtual classroom experience.

For Kumon centers, there is 30 day free trial period where you get full access to all functions. After the trial, Kelp-desk.com will charge a fee of $20USD/month per center.

Kelp-Desk would like to help in the COVID-19 pandemic. The free trial period will be extended to at least July 1, 2020.

Kelp-desk.com is always free for students.

We have rushed to get this website operational to cope with the immediate COVID-19 crisis. We have ideas for more features which we will be working on and releasing in the coming weeks. Check the What's New link to learn about new releases. If you have any ideas, please don't hesitant to send us a message.
